July 2023 Newsletter

Hello!

Summer is here and we hope that you have been enjoying this warm, sometimes sunny and sometimes rainy season.  It reminds us of beautiful Guatemala!  We look forward to returning later this year and hope that you can join us through our new Touring for Good travel program (please see details below).

As we reflect on our accomplishments this year – students completing their coursework and pending graduates – we have you, our donors, to thank you for making it all possible.  As a partner to our efforts, communities are leveraging out of poverty through the education of girls and women.  The work we do is important to shift progress and we look forward to continuing our efforts made possible by you as we have new applicants for our scholarship program!

Thank you, Donors!!

2023 Impact

We would like to share the following 2023 impact for our university students in Guatemala

(funded via our ALL-4-1 program)

  • 47 university students
  • 5 students are expected to complete their coursework this school year
  • 80 new applicants for the next school year

We currently offer $600 scholarships to indigenous Guatemalan girls from disadvantaged communities for their University education. Through our All 4-1 campaign, our goal is to offer more University scholarships in 2024. Every single dollar goes to a specific girl’s education and your donation is tax deductible. Here’s how you can change a girl’s life, that of her family, and her community:

Create your own All 4-1 group to fund one girl's scholarship.

Each person commits $150 each for 4-5 years to help a young scholar earn her degree.  Your All 4-1 group will be connected with a scholarship student, who will send you an update each December, sharing the impact of your support to her personally.

If you would like to host an All 4-1 event with friends and family reach out to us at administrator@bfbfoundation.org

ANNOUNCING: TOURING FOR GOOD

We are excited to introduce our newest program, a cultural and philanthropic travel experience, Touring for Good, that extends an opportunity for travelers to engage with and be a partner to the communities and programs committed to positive change in education for girls and women.

Travelers will enjoy the beautiful and scenic Guatemalan landscape, history and culture including Lake Atitlán, Chichicastenango and the cityscape of Antigua, where modern life is juxtaposed among ruins.  Shopping, visits with the schools we serve, and tours of historic sites and Mayan relics are included in the trip.

Our Tours are geared for the most enriching, cultural and personal experience we can pack into 7 nights and 8 days.  Your travel with our program helps us to raise money for scholarships to high school students in Guatemala.  More details to come about our next trip!

Thank You Elizabeth!

After joining the foundation as the Executive Director in 2016, Elizabeth Love Maddrey has moved on from BFB as of May 2023.  Her service and support have been tremendous contributions to the foundation and we are grateful to her.  From organizing trips to Guatemala to directing events, including the launch of our speak series Voices : Voces, Elizabeth’s scope was vast and she will be missed.
